A win to get us moving again

After consistent losses and draws to oppositions spread the foot and top of the league, it was time to get the ball rolling again, it was a game that any team in the championship would not want to go into with poor form.

The Addicks had slipped into mid table on the back of a run that had seen them fail to pick up maximum points in six consecutive games, and going into the encounter with the Pilgrims saw Zheng Zhi and Andy Gray both doubts.

The Pilgrims were also pushing for promotion, which meant this game was crucial to pick up 3 points to get us moving again. It was all to play for as the whistle blew but an likely twist saw goalkeeper Nicky Weaver sent off inside three minutes for handling outside his area, Lee Cook had to be taken off this saw 'rookie' goalkeeper Rob Elliot make his debut and fortunately grasp the opportunity with both hands. Charlton dictated much of the first half, whilst Leroy Lita provided the threat towards the home side.

Charlton looked comfortable at half time, but still needed a win, Plymouth Argyle come out better in the second half and opened the scoring through Jermaine Easter, I'm sure that any Charlton fan thought here comes one of many, but Charlton kept to the game plan and it played off, Leroy Lita capitalising on a mistake by the Pilgrims goalkeeper, to head home, and 14 minutes from time Iwelumo rose to head across goal which left Lita to hammer home from two yards.

The win took The Addicks one point behind sixth place Wolverhampton who have two games in hand, whilst seventh place promotion rivals Ipswich have a game in hand also.

The fact that teams in and around the play-offs have games in hand makes the task harder but if we keep on winning now then we do still have a very possible chance of making the play-offs after all.
