Richardson's Surprise Charlton Exit!!!!

The delight at Charlton making their first signing of the summer (Gary Doherty) was soon overshadowed by the surprise departure of Frazer Richardson on Monday afternoon.

Richardson was sold to Southampton for an undisclosed fee, believed to be around 500,000.

With so few senior players contracted to The Addicks at the moment seeing Richardson follow Nicky Bailey (both were among our best players last season) in exiting SE7 is a bitter blow! Richardson said that an offer must have been made that was "too good to refuse" given our financial position.

The 27-year-old was right up their with our best players last season after his free transfer arrival from Leeds United and made it into The League 1 team of the year, however we'll have to do without the right back now as he's signed a three-year contract with The Saints who are many people's tip to walk away with the League 1 title. Charlton on the other hand, from the looks of it will be miles behind.

I was surprised too...but i am resignrd to the fact that Parky is under orders to sell before he can buy...I guess this approach makes sense as the books HAVE TO BE BALANCED AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE .....We will not be able to push on as a club until the financial burdens are eased...
