The news that many had feared, however they would've hoped not to be confirmed has. Charlton have been forced into making a number of staff redundant.
Staff were warned of redundancies last most but it was hoped this wouldn't be needed but the knock on effect of failure to gain promotion to The Championship has meant a number of cutbacks across the board to help stretch the budget.
Managing director Stephen Kavanagh told The Official Website: "It's been a tough few months for the club, and we've had to make some very unpleasant decisions. It's been an emotionally trying time for everyone at the club, especially for those placed at risk.
"Staff have worked very hard in difficult circumstances over the past few years in particular, and I must pay tribute to their hard work and efforts during this time. I recognise that all of those affected have positively contributed to the club for many years, and were highly valued.
"I'm very disappointed that anyone had to leave, but our financial situation didn't permit us to make any more savings."
It's hoped that no further job losses will be needed and some of the measures taken have actually saved some jobs, Kavanagh added: "There has been a lot of hard work behind the scenes to examine ways of making savings and restructuring the way we operate in some areas.
"As a result, we have been able to save four roles thanks to the efforts of those at risk and their colleagues, and although there are one or two issues which need to be finalised, we don't anticipate putting any more staff at risk of redundancy in the near future."
This is always horrible news to hear and no one ever really deserves to lose their job but as much as is possible I'd hope that those that were more deserving (not that anyone is ever deserving of being made redundant of course) are the ones that have seen this happen.
