Purse String To Be Loosened For A Striker
Finances at SE7 are tight, very tight in fact! The chances of us outlaying any money for signings this summer seemed unlikely, however Richard Murray has indicated this could happen.
Phil Parkinson has so far been unable to get his hands on the chequebook at SE7 but with the need for a striker, at least one of them The Addicks boss looks as though he'll be given some money to bring in a proven goalscorer, Murray told The South London Press: "Phil has done very well on transfers but I do agree with him that we are three or four senior players short, particularly in the striking department.
"We are looking at two targets up front and we know we need someone who has proven that they can score goals.
"Phil hasn't spent any money on signings in his time here but he has done a great job. If we need to pay a small fee to prise one or two people away from their clubs, then we will do that. We're working as hard as we can within the resources we have."
Parkinson wouldn't be given anything near like the money that former Addicks boss Alan Pardew was to sign his striker flops, and understandably so given our financial situation but hopefully with a bit of money to spend he can bring in the right man.
Some reports have said that Kevin Lisbie is being lined up for a return to The Valley after being told that he can leave Ipswich Town?
I still think that we should be tapping up Liverpool and asking them to loan us a striker or two, the young Spaniard that they have at the European U19 Championships is maybe more likely to be pushing for their first team this season but they must have others of his ilk that they could loan us!
