Charlton Sign Worner And Fry

Charlton's numbers have swelled by two today with Phil Parkinson bringing in Ross Worner and Matt Fry.

Worner is a goalkeeper who has signed from Woking for a nominal fee after impressing during trial spells with The Addicks.

Parkinson has high hopes for the young goalkeeper, however he also knows that signing him does leave us with the opportunity of bringing in another more senior goalkeeper if we need to, Parkinson told The News Shopper: "We`ve signed a young goalkeeper from Woking, Ross Worner, who we`ve had on trial last year when he came in and trained with us.

"I`m very pleased because he is a young hungry goalkeeper who wants to be successful and we`ve given him a chance to come and prove himself at this level.

"The reasons we`ve done this is because obviously signing a youngster still gives us an opportunity in the budget to bring an experienced keeper in if we need to in terms of a loan somewhere down the line.

"We had him in on trial again this pre-season but he picked up an injury and went back to Woking."

Worner is expected to be Rob Elliot's understudy this season and will be named on the bench for the League 1 season opener against Bournemouth at The Valley.

Joining Fry at SE7 this season will be Matt Fry who has completed a loan return to The Addicks after his loan spell, in which he failed to appear last season.

The 19-year-old has joined on a "youth loan", which means he can also play in reserve matches for West Ham United who can recall him at anytime after the first 28 days of the loan. Fry has been given permission to feature for us in the Carling Cup and Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
