Parkinson Post MK Dons

Parkinson Post MK Dons

Charlton managed to grind out a win and pick up all three points following a 1-0 win over Milton Keynes Dons at The Valley on Tuesday.

Phil Parkinson said that the side were a little down following the Dagenham & Redbridge draw at SE7 on Saturday and lessons that were learned from that draw were put into practice against The Dons and this left him pleased enough, Parkinson said: "Saturday was a blow.

"The penalty and the last minute goal knocked us. Tonight we set our stall out to be solid and I thought it was a proper solid performance. It certainly wasn't spectacular, but we set our stall out to be strong.

"I was stood on the side and thought 'this is frustrating but at least we've been more solid'. I just felt we were too open in the second half against Dagenham. That's not how you win football games but tonight we had a base on how to win the game and I'm absolutely delighted with the effort of the boys."

An unbeaten run is now extended to four, however doing this with a win puts us in good shape ahead of the weekends game at Brentford but now The Addicks boss is looking for a greater level of consistency in our play, adding: "Driving home on Saturday, I was livid with the referee and everything which went on. Tonight was a big game for us. If we'd drawn it would have been four games unbeaten but four points from the two home games makes Saturday's result a decent one. We go to Brentford in good spirit.

"It's just about getting that consistency in your performances and we're seeing signs of that. After 10 games things normally take shape but this division looks like being very tight this year. No-one has taken the bull by the horns."

Kyel Reid, who was struggling to even make the bench came on and turned the game with his impact credited by Parkinson along with that of Jon Fortune who was named in the starting XI to make his second debut for the club, with Parkinson having this to say about the pair: "Credit to Kyel and our medical team for getting him fit. He came off with a dead leg on Saturday and it wasn't until about two hours before kick-off that he said he'd be OK to be on the bench.

"He played a big part in that winning goal. We've sat here many times and spoken about the importance of having a strong bench and to be able to bring on someone like Reidy is a massive weapon for us.

"I thought Jon was excellent.

"It's been difficult for him but we finally got him three back-to-back reserve games in his legs and fitness-wise tonight he stood up to it well. I'm pleased for him, tonight was the start again of Jon Fortune's [Charlton] career. He's a good character to have around the building whether he's playing or not."
