Parkinson Post Southend
Charlton Johnstone's Paint Trophy challenge lives on following Tuesday's narrow 1-0 win over Southend United at Roots Hall.
Phil Parkinson wasn't impressed with the second half showing but felt that overall we did enough to beat The Shrimpers with Therry Racon scoring a 25-yard screamer to win the match. Another cleansheet was also important for him, Parkinson told The Official Website: "In the first half, I thought we played well and in the second we became a bit scrappy in our play and didn't keep the ball as well.
"But we were able to get another clean sheet and it was a fantastic goal from Therry Racon that won it for us."
Racon has become a JP Trophy specialist as he scored in a previous round as well. This saw The Addicks boss call on him to score more goals and he says that another chat with the midfielder before the game saw him get his rewards, adding: "He scored in the first round against Dagenham & Redbridge so he's played a pivotal role in this competition and his shooting has been getting better.
"I was speaking to him about it before the game because he had a couple of shots on Saturday and I've noticed in training that he's been hitting the target more. He got his rewards tonight."
It might have only been a narrow win but a wins a win and this puts us into the Semi Final and another step closer to the Wembley showpiece.
