Powell - That will live long in my memory

Powell - That will live long in my memory

Charlton hadn't suffered defeat at The Valley this time last week, then twice in a matter of days this came with the 4-2 defeat to Notts County following the defeat to Colchester.

Chris Powell was livid with a game that will 'live long' in his memory and has made it clear that he will not tolerate another 45-minute showing like he saw in the first half, which saw Charlton go into the break 4-0 down: 'that will live long in my memory as manager of this football club because it's something that's very rare and when you're on the receiving end of it it's not a good feeling

'For a team that's prided itself on it's defensive record and not conceding goals that was - as an understatement - pretty poor.

'The first 45 minutes is something I thought I would never see from my team and I know for a fact I won't see it again. If you concede a goal or two in the first half you still have a chance. If you concede four, that's a mountain.'

Charlton may well be 'champions elect' and are still on course for promotion as champions of league one but Powell has warned everyone that for as good as his side were in the opening half of the season he will not accept things tailing off: 'they've been outstanding in the first-half of the season, but I don't want anyone thinking - players or staff - we're over the line because we are not there.'
