Jewell On The Edge

Three goals in a hectic nine minute spell early in the second half saw Charlton triumph 2-1 at Ipswich on Saturday.

Johnnie Jackson and Ricardo Fuller gave the Addicks a comfortable lead but a Jason Scotland strike, that took a wicked deflection off Leon Cort to wrong foot Ben Hamer, halved the arrears.

Beleaguered boss, Paul Jewell, is under intense pressure as rumours abound that Harry Redknapp is poised to take over at Portman Road. Redknapp is a friend of Ipswich owner Marcus Evans. Redknapp misses the day-to-day involvement with players but may prefer to wait for a Premier League club to come calling.

Chris Powell will be pleased with the way his team performed. Jackson played more centrally, Salim Kerkar was to the skipper's left and Ricardo Fuller started up front with Bradley Wright-Phillips.

Chris Solly continued at left-back but Powell has enquired about taking Fulham's Matthew Briggs on loan to cover Rhoys Wiggins' absence.

There are rumours that fomer Forest, Norwich and Coventry midfielder Sammy Clingan is set to sign a deal at The Valley.
