Charlton 2-1 Leicester (Sat 31st)
31st August 2013
Charlton were spared defeat by Doncaster last time out by the rain, when 3-1 down at the break. It was glorious sunshine on Saturday as Leicester came to London though.
The scoreline reflected the weather, as far as Charlton were concerned, as they collected a first win of the championship season...
Vardy and Moore both got into good positions to score, or at least create, a goal for Leicester but neither were taken. Charlton continued to look dodgy at the back though!
Morrison (27), formerly with Leicester, opened the scoring for Charlton before the half hour when he headed home a Stephens corner. Church, quite how, managed to miss an almost exact replica soon after.
Kermorgant forced Schmeichel into a good save shortly after the break but it was the visitors who then almost levelled as Vardy led a counter attack from that resulting corning but Drinkwater was denied by Charlton goalie Hamer. From the rebound though James thought he was fouled in the box, this wasn't given and he wasn't happy! His protests to the referee resulted in him collecting a second yellow so he was off...
Nugent was next to be denied by Hamer then the referee caused some anger from the Foxes again with Schmeichel thought he was fouled as Kermorgant (59) headed home to double the Addicks' lead.
Drinkwater (62) instantly pulled one back for Leicester but it was Charlton who then looked the more likely to score again, in fact Schmeichel had to make a double save with Cousins looking for another late on but 2-1 was enough for Charlton.
