Not Good Enough
The expected, at the very least, hoped outcome of Charlton's south London derby with Millwall at the weekend didn't materialise.
Millwall took the bragging rights back to the Den with a 1-0 win at the Valley as our home woes continued, as they did in the main last season...
As the home side you would've hoped, strike that expected, Charlton to have been looking to be in the ascendancy but that wasn't the way it paned out with the visitors controlling most of the game and winning fairly comfortably really.
Not enough threat was offered in either half really and it wasn't until the latter stages that Millwall looked really likely to be threatened, and Chris Powell expected much more.
After the game he said: 'It was a home game and a derby and I wanted us to put the opposition on the back foot but we didn't do that.
'In the first half I really needed more from my players, in respect of creativity.
'Then after the goal we were always chasing the game and although we had one or two situations we couldn't break the deadlock.'
We struggled with the home form last season, fortunately the away record was as good as anyone and this not only left us well clear or relegation it also meant that a play off place was almost achieved.
That seems a long way off at the moment and this season looks to be a struggle but the boss is convinced a corner can be turned.
He added: 'We've got to realise it will be a tough old season for us but we have to believe we can turn it around.'
Getting back to basics would appear to be the necessity, definitely at home as the struggles continue...
