Goals Win Games

Goals Win Games

It's obvious isn't it, goals do indeed win games but if you're not scoring them you'll not win them will you!

Ipswich were very quick out of the traps at the Valley on Saturday, and already had a couple of chances before the opened the scoring in five-minutes. That was enough to beat Charlton 1-0.

Of course if you don't concede goals you won't win them, however if you don't concede them you won't lose many either. The problem is when you're not scoring, no matter how few you concede it just take that one (like on Saturday) and you are beaten!

Chris Powell knows we've got to start taking the chances that come our way, and take them anyway we can and then look to hold onto that, or build on it.

He said: 'We haven't scored enough, that is in black and white. We don't concede too many for a side in the bottom half, but goals win games.

'You need to score, even if you just nick one that can be enough. You have to take the chances that come your way, then it gives you something to build on or hang on to.'

The boss refused to use the midweek game we played as "an excuse", and nor should he!

Not only are the players fit enough (or should be) to play weekend, midweek and weekend again lets not forget that we were lucky to even be playing that Doncaster game again having been 3-1 down when it was abandoned, our second chance came with three-points....

Tommy Smith's early header was enough to give Ipswich the win and leave us with just three wins from our last 13 games.
