Stephens Hopes For New Deal

A number of players are in a position that'll see them out of contract at the end of the current season.

It's not just players of course, Chris Powell is also going to see his existing deal end in the summer.

Dale Stephens is one of these players in that position.

He wouldn't have done his chances of a new deal any harm though with a stunning goal in the win over Doncaster at the Valley last week.

The midfielder is well aware of the fact that many players are out of contract this season so if happy to be patient, nevertheless he's still hopefully of something being agreed in the not to distant future.

Stephens said: 'A lot of the lads are in the same boat but we have the rest of the season to sort that out.

'I just hope we can get something sorted, hopefully before the end of the year.

'Everybody is playing for a new deal and the higher we finish this year the more people will get contracts.'

Uncertainty over your future can have an impact, but when all is said and done the players should be buoyed by this in a way as if they up their game they'll get the contract offer they want from us, or someone else.

If they don't they won't!

Once the proposed takeover at the Valley goes through I'd expect much more activity on the new contract front to take place, and Stephens could well be one of those dealt in....
