Clinical Charlton

Charlton confirmed their place in the fourth round of the FA cup with a "clinical" 3-0 win over Oxford in Tuesday nights replay at the Kassam Stadium.

Having battled back from two-goals down in the original tie Charlton produced a much better display in the replay to book a meeting with Huddersfield this weekend.

Chris Powell was with the outcomes, saying: 'Considering what we went through in the first game, I was very pleased with how we did in this one.

'Even though we had had a long trip to Middlesbrough last Saturday I thought the players put in a sterling effort.

'The goals came at the right time and I thought we were quite clinical tonight. I'm pleased with all aspects of our play and for our fans as well.'

The Addicks had only won one of their previous 10 games before this, but Yann Kermorgant double and another from Danny Green could spark a revival?

It's certainly something that Powell hopes will prove the case, adding: 'We do need some momentum and to instil some confidence in the side, and we'll gain that tonight.

'Yann is our talisman in some respects and I was thinking of not playing him here. But he is so important to us.

'Simon Church, who is desperately chasing a goal, was very selfless for the second goal. He could have gone for goal but did the professional thing and squared it.'

The FA cup in particular is something that he thinks could "galvanise" Charlton's season and he wants to keep going as far as possible, but admits championship survival is the priority, which will be made easier if he can bring in some players in the next week or so.
