Stephens Leaves Addicks To Join Brighton
Dale Stephens, long linked with a move away from Charlton, has finally moved on after a fee was agreed with Brighton & Hove Albion for them to snap him up.
Stephens, due to be out of contract this summer, has signed a three and a half year contract with the Addicks' championship rivals Brighton.
Chris Powell had earlier in the day confirmed that it looked like the midfielder would be leaving the Valley and by early evening on Thursday he had with a statement stating that talks over a new contract had taken place but with an agreement not reached the club couldn't risk losing him on a free transfer in the summer.
With an acceptable off made by the Seagulls it had to be accepted....
On the departing Stephens there was plenty of praise from Powell, with the boss telling the official website: 'Dale is showing himself to be the player we always envisaged.
'He did in League One and he has shown in spades this season what he is about.
'I really like him and wish him well.'
The 24-year-old will be sorely missed by Charlton with his departure another blow to the clubs survival hopes.
