In The End It Was Not Our Day

Charlton's season of woe continued when they slumped to another championship defeat at the weekend against Birmingham.

A goal in each half was enough to condemn the Addicks to a 2-0 defeat and allow Birmingham to open up a bit of daylight between themselves and the bottom three, which Charlton remain very much part of.

Chris Powell says that he was happy enough with his side played, and there were enough chances to score, but felt that Birmingham scored 'at crucial times'.

The Addicks boss said: 'We acquitted ourselves well with some good passages of play. We had good chances but their keeper did well.

'In the end it was not our day, we had opportunities to score. The chances were there but Birmingham scored at crucial times.'

Two goals from Federico Macheda, on loan to Birmingham from Man United, secured the visitors the points and left Charlton without a win since Boxing Day.

The situation that Charlton are in isn't good and Powell realises that his future could be in doubt and he'll catch up with Roland Duchatelet after the weekend with attention now turning to the FA cup game against Sheffield Wednesday.

He added: 'I have not spoken to the owner about the future as yet. I will catch up with him after the weekend.

'We need results and we are not getting them I understand the need the to push away from the bottom.

'I would rather have more points than still be in the cup but we will be trying hard to get into last eight.'
