Stay, Not Fade Away

Ben Hamer has warned highly rated up and coming Charlton midfielder Diego Poyet that he would be well advised to think his next steps very carefully.

Poyet, who will celebrate his 19th birthday this week, has had an incredible impact at Charlton over the second half of the season that has just ended with him making such an impact since his January debut that he won the Player of the Year award!

An offer has been made to him on a new contract but plenty of interest is being shown in the midfielder both at home and abroad and he could be tempted away but his teammate Hamer has warned that his talent could fade away if he moves on too soon.

The Addicks 'keeper told the South London Press: 'You can go to the Premier League too soon and find yourself on the fringes. Here he would easily play another 45-plus matches next season - that's how good he is.

'I don't want to see him not even on the bench or making the squad - it would be a talent missed. He is a credit to his parents - totally down to earth and well-mannered.'

Wise words from Hamer, that Poyet could be well advised to take notice of but sadly agents can often turn heads!

He will make it at the highest levels of club and international football but Hamer is right he would be better off staying at the Valley for now, but do you think he will sign a new contract with the club?
