'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Roland

I'm a little ashamed of the way I have under-estimated Roland's intentions for our Family club, Charlton. It seems he is achieving a good feel factor in what is being done for our hollowed turf. I was guilty in judging him far too soon - before he was even sat firmly in his seat.

We already know about the new playing surface, which should according to reports that come out the Valley, be of Premiership standards. It is all the additional extras that are being done that surprise me. The seats that have faded over the past twelve years, which I understand is going to be a rolling programme, is one of them. There are also many other pleasing changes around the ground that will make even the most grumpiest supporter happy. It is these changes and possibly many more that might come in the future that I'm taking my hat off to a job well done.

I welcome changes if they are with the best intentions, which I must admit they are. But having said this there is a part of me that thinks back to those bad old days when the Valley was going to the dogs with no investment, just a lot of empty promises. I'm sure a lot of our older supporters will remember those days well without me going into details.

With all these things in place, it can only bring renewed interest from our supporters who have turned their backs on this club that boasted some of the best support in the past and could again be a force we can all be proud of.
