Pardew: I won't sell Bent

Bent, 22, is being chased by a host of Premiership clubs after netting 10 goals for Charlton this term.

He scored 18 times last season and finished as the leading English forward in the top flight.

Despite signing a lucrative four-year deal in the summer, Bent has attracted plenty of interest.

But Addicks boss Pardew is adamant Bent will stay and help get the Addicks out of the relegation zone.

'I study everything and I know how important he is to us,' said Pardew. 'He will definitely be staying at this club through the window.

'He is such an important player for the rest of the players in the squad, he sets the right example.

'He did everything he could to make us win in the 2-2 draw with Fulham last week and you can't ask for more than that.'

And Pardew wants England forward Bent, who scored in that game, to remain as skipper.

'I think I'll stay with Darren as captain until such time as I think somebody else would give us a lift,' he said

'I think it gave him a lift because he's been without a goal for a while and it was nice to see him get the second one.'

Pardew has been pleased with the players' commitment during their woeful run of form.

He said: 'I'm not too disheartened about what I've seen. I'm happy with the attitude of the play-ers, they've had a tough run recently.'
