'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Bolton 1 CAFC1

Most of the other clubs were trying to tie up last minute transfer deals on deadline day. But Charlton took to the field trying to get something from a tricky away game.

Pardew kept faith with the side that beat Pompey last time out and it was the 4-5-1 formation.

The Addicks made things difficult for themselves early on, as they had to come from behind after poor marking at the near post allowed Henrik Pedersen to head across goal. The old Charlton's of Reed and Dowie would have folded at this point, but not Pardew`s men.

A Talal El Karkouri power free-kick flew through the Bolton keeper's arms to draw things level.

As expected, Bolton then pressurised the Charlton goal but the Valley men dug in to earn an important draw.

Bolton will feel hard done by as they had two good shouts for a penalty waved away by the referee. But fair play to the Charlton defence they stood strong and got a vital point.

After the match Charlton boss Alan Pardew said: 'The spirit was fantastic, we have had lots of criticisms about our defending and we proved them wrong.

'Some of the heart and endeavour shown was attractive to my eyes, it was two real good-spirited sides that had a go at each other.

'I was impressed by the way we galvanised after we fell behind and we responded really well tonight.'
