Robinson - Any Konsa Sale Has To Go To Team

Manager Karl Robinson has admitted that with Ademola Lookman's transfer funding 'structural' improvements at the club, any sale of Ezri Konsa has to back to the team itself.

Meeting with the media this week, Kent Live have him explaining that moving forward, any and all sales have to be reinvested in the squad so our first team doesn't stagnate/

Conceding that Lookman completed his £11million move to Everton to fund infrastructure developments, Robinson explained.

'My argument is if we sell players it has to go back into the team to go forward. Otherwise you are devaluing your own team. No fan worries about, 'yes we've got this building or that building'. All they care about is what happens on the pitch. Fundamentally you have to have a structure. Every time you walk into this building (Sparrows Lane) there is something different happening every week.'

Whilst Robinson wasn't best pleased with the Lookman decision, he understood it given the circumstances at the time, but he certainly doesn't want to see a repeat given all the speculation about Konsa.

'Ademola went for more infrastructure reasons. Did I like that as a manager? No. But for these kids of south east London we have to have a base so this academy makes great players for the next 10 or 15 years. I want to make sure it's not about selfish, immediate gain. But I think if Ezri Konsa goes, people have to be aware that we have to have an injection to make this team better.'

He went on to add.

'I think there's a difference now where we are starting to build ourselves. It's been about the foundations but now as we start to settle it has to be about what goes on on the pitch. My job is to get the best outcome possible. And we know what our targets are. And we have set ourselves up for a very exciting season.'
