Konopka on trial at Charlton
Konopka has been handed the chance to impress Alan Pardew this week.
The 21-year-old has recently applied for a Polish passport which would allow him to move to England without the need for a work permit.
Konopka had a trial with Cardiff City last month, but has set his sights on winning a switch to The Valley.
'I flew in Saturday morning to London,' Konopka told Yanks Abroad. 'The trial is for a week.
'I am unsure of how they got word of me, but I know that the chief scout and the goalkeeper coach were really excited on seeing me up close in training.
'I am just going in to get a good week's training and have some fun.
'That was the attitude I had with Cardiff City and they were very impressed with me to the point of working out a contract if and when the Polish passport is set.
'I figure that if I do that and just put my head down and go to work, I'll get a lot out of the week.'
Pardew is expected to recruit a new goalkeeper during the summer as Scott Carson will return to parent club Liverpool and Thomas Myhre is set to return to Denmark.
