Welcome to reality Grant McCann

Welcome to reality Grant McCann

Peterborough`s Manager Grant McCann felt the referee robbed his side of all three points when he did not reward a penalty when Addicks Ahmed Kashi appeared to foul Gwion Edwards on the hour, but into injury time the same player brought down Jake Forster-Caskey for the host and was rewarded the spot-kick which changed the game. Ricky Holmes stepped up and converted bringing his total to 11 goals for the Addicks.

Mr McCann fumed. The decision by referee John Brooks cost us a better position in the table. Instead of being 4 points adrift we are now 6 behind in 7th place. I`m sorry my friend. This is the reality of the game. The Addicks suffered something very similar against the Dons. We had just taken the lead and by that I mean there was no time left to play, when a penalty decision went against us. The player in question simulated a trip and conned the referee. It was controversial for it was clearly a dive. It cost us a win that would have kept up the challenge on the leaders.

Hard as it may seem Peterborough`s manager has to accept that the referee`s decision is final. If he sees a foul has been committed bad enough for a spot-kick to be rewarded, all the moans and groans want alter the outcome it has to be accepted as such end off.

That is football. Posh were cruising having bagged a two goal lead which they held until 90 minutes. In injury time things changed dramatically in favour of the Addicks. When all seemed lost and a defeat looked certain, the Addicks somehow got up a steam injection and within three minutes they were level in this dire game that if they had lost it should not have felt too down trodden.

I really don`t know what mind set our players were in. A game in hand which was a must win to keep in touch, they almost threw it away with some of the worst play especially in midfield I have seen for a long time at home. I`m not going to direct my displeasure to just one player, the lot were awful.

I find it very hard to agree with the comment from a manager especially Robinson who could not fault his players or blame them when loosing. Lighten up Karl, who else is to blame for a diabolical performance especially from a team like Peterborough who have not won away since August this term. If the players are not to be blamed, it must be the manager. He selects the team best suited to do the job. The team plays to per instructions. In the game against Peterborough he had Magennis as a winger, strange decision. The Addicks looked unbalance with players unsure what their roll was on the pitch.

From a set-piece we were undone. From that point onwards we were chasing the game and it looked by all accounts where a goal was coming from. Open play seen very little evidence that the Addicks could break down the stubbornness of the Posh defence.

One became two with some more dreadful defending. Game over. Not so. For once fate was on our side and we were gifted an equaliser via the penalty spot. No one gave the Addicks a chance to get something out of this game. The clock was ticking. Into the last minute a combination of a defensive mistake from Posh and last ditch shot from Karlan Ahearne-Grant rescued a point which on reflection the way the game was panning out, the Addicks where lucky to level.

Well that`s football. Unpredictable, play well and get beaten. Play badly and earn a point. Charlton are capable to do both. But one thing they should never do is to lose sight of the teams above them. It`s in their hands, we want get a better chance than now to press for the play-offs at the very least.
