Robinson Receives Fitness Boost

Robinson Receives Fitness Boost

Manager Karl Robinson has confirmed that we have a fitness boost ahead of the anniversary match between Charlton Athletic and Portsmouth this weekend.

Hosting the side at The Valley on Saturday, we have three of the first team back in contention but there are fresh doubts surrounding a couple of players.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media this week, Robinson explained.

'Reevesy is back, Sols will be back, Clarkey will be back and obviously Pearcey and Harry Lennon are too. It`s a very unique time - I`ve never had this many injuries at the same time and the number of games we have played recently is quite remarkable. I think I`ve driven 800 miles in the last four days or so, coming to and from the Training Ground and going to away games. Sleep and the mental fatigue can take its toll. But ten of the players that will start on Saturday didn`t travel on Tuesday, so they will be fresh.'

With some returning, we do have a couple who have picked up knocks - namely Patrick Bauer and Ahmed Kashi.

'We`re very thin in a number of areas at the moment. Tariqe isn`t available and Patrick will be out for a few more weeks. Kashi`s is a bit of a serious one - he`ll be out for another three weeks or so. It`s a stress reaction in the bone of his foot. Kashi has been unreal and the security we`ve had in there - in midfield - has been second to none. Our young players have played a lot of football recently and they should be ready to grasp their opportunity with both hands.'

With the midweek EFL Trophy success over Swansea City Under 23s, Reeco Hackett-Fairchild helped himself to a brace on the day to put us through to the last 16 and he was hoping for a run in the first team as well.

'At Charlton, there is always a chance that you could break in. Multiple players have done it this season, so everyone has just got to get their heads down and work hard. I know that if I`m doing the right things then the gaffer will give me a chance again.'

Adding.

'I`ve managed to get off the mark for goals and now I need to keep going. With the first one, I saw Joe get down the line and a little gap opened up for me, I swivelled and managed to finish it with my left foot. I think the second one could have gone anywhere but it beat the goalkeeper and that is all that matters.'
