Posh Frustration For Charlton

Posh Frustration For Charlton

Manager Karl Robinson has had to concede that Peterborough's attackers were better than Charlton Athletic's on the day as we suffered defeat at the weekend.

Heading to London Road for the game, the match was incredibly open for large periods when the score was pegged at one nil, but a penalty loss and other golden opportunities went begging as the score became two nil and although Mikael Zyro did claw one back for hope, two goals inside of the final ten minutes decided the points on the day.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media following the game, a disappointed Robinson knew the game could've easily gone differently for us but in wasting our chances we came up against a more clinical opposition.

'It didn`t feel like a 4-1 scoreline. You`ve got to give them tremendous credit. The difference is they`ve scored goals. We don`t take our chances. It is as blatant as that. That`s been our problem all season.'

With a formation switch from 4231 to a more traditional 433, Robinson felt we were doing well until a controversial freekick saw them take the lead just prior to the half time break.

'I thought at 0-0 first half we were very comfortable. One mistake and they score. I thought in the lead-up to their first goal the free kick wasn`t a free kick but you can nitpick at so many different things but today our finishing was nowhere near where it should be. I thought our play was good, I thought we created a number of chances and that`s as good as form in between the boxes but you don`t get defined by in between the boxes. You get defined in the boxes and that`s cost us.'

Robbo went on to say.

'I can`t just blame the penalty miss. We didn`t take our chances, Josh has had one or two, Tariqe`s header from four yards out, things flashing across the box, a clear header from a set piece where Naby is on the back post with no-one near him and he misses. We`ll play worse than that and win this year but you`ve been beat 4-1 so you`ve got to congratulate the opposition on that. Their forwards were better than ours today, it`s as simple as that.'

Charlton now sit in eighth place with Blackpool at Bloomfield Road up next on Tuesday evening and victory there could take us back into the Play Off spots.
