'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Ambrose: We Can Do It

Charlton showed they had enough in their locker when we smashed 4 past West Ham on Saturday and Ambrose is in confident mood.

'If we can produce 10 more performances like that then things are looking good for us.

'It was a massive match for us and for the gaffer. We had a two-week break and were really fit and ready for the fight.

'We took it on and put on a good performance and got a fantastic result."

Ambrose doubled his season's tally in fine fashion with the game's crucial first goal, wriggling free on the right before finding Thomas and then continuing his run into the box to volley home Marcus Bent's fine cross.

'It was a really well built goal," he said. 'Jerome played a great ball out wide to Benty and he put a brilliant ball in for me to tap home.

'I was pleased to get on the score sheet and I should hope there will be more goals to follow before the end of the season."

Darren added: 'Jerome got two as well and that's been a long time coming for him.

'Hopefully we can both go forward and get some more goals before the end of the season."

The midfielder was a handful for the Hammers from the opening whistle and was twice sent crashing to the turf by some strong opposition challenges.

But Ambrose dusted himself off to net that vital goal and also laid on the fourth goal for Thomas near the end.

'I've got a few cuts and bruises after those early challenges but other than that it was a fantastic day for us," said the Harlow-born winger.

'It started off well with us having Luke Young and Darren Bent back in the side and for Darren to get on the score sheet as well as me, and Jerome popping up with two, was very pleasing."

In terms of the visitors' physicality, Ambrose added: 'We knew that was going to happen.

'Paul Konchesky told me he was there but I can take that. There were two late challenges that the referee dealt with but we all knew it was going to be a competitive game and we were all up for the fight."

Watford loom next for the addicks and Ambrose hopes the club can get out of this mess.

He said: 'Obviously we are disappointed at where we are in the league but we are all in it together.

'Everybody was buzzing before the West Ham game and we showed that and won 4-0. Everybody was buzzing afterwards as well which is pleasing.

'To put on a performance like that edges us closer to getting out of it and we will be doing our utmost and fighting to the death to do it."

You have a much better chance of staying up now and if you win today the confidence will build even more. You need to catch wigan by winning and hopefully them getting beat at Man City.I think you can still do it. Up the Shrimpers
