Bent has been linked with a move away from The Valley all season with the Hammers, Spurs, Liverpool and Valencia all believed to be chasing the England star.
The tabloids have got into over drive today and the word is that West Ham have won the race for his signature.
Alan Curbishley signed Bent for the Addicks from Ipswich at a bargain £2.5m and that fee is now expected to rise nearly 7 times and net the Addicks around £17m.
Bent is a fans favourite and he always gives everything for our club, but if a bid of this amount is to come in we have got to take it. £17 million is an unbelievable amount of money even after we pay Ipswich there 20% sell on fee, about £3m it's still going to be the biggest deal in our history.
Some reports are suggesting the Addicks will also bag Hayden Mullins as part of the deal. Alan Pardew made Mullins his first signing while at Upton Park and the ex palace star is keen to re-join Pards at The Valley.
Whatever happens you have got to take your hats off to Benty. He has conducted himself the right way, he hasn`t spat his dummy out like Snotty Parker, and demanded a move. He is a proper player who just wants to his best for Charlton.
Good Luck Benty and thank you for all the goals and the massive amount of money you are fetching the club. West Ham clearly have more money than sense, yes they are getting a top class goal scorer but at £17 million pounds Bent will have a lot to live up to.
Charlton will have plenty of cash now and should be the biggest spenders in the Championship next season. Now Pards needs to work hard and get the right players in and make sure we bounce back straight away.
