Mullins will be number 9

Mullins will be number 9

Hayden Mullins is set to become Alan Pardew's Ninth signing of the summer.

Reading were close to signing Hayden Mullins but the former Palace star has decided to re-join Alan Pardew at The Valley.

The 28-year-old is Reading-born, and many expected him to return home. The player has left Upton Park after failing to force his way into Hammers boss Alan Curbishley's plans since he took over the east Londoners last December.

Rather than linking up with Steve Coppell at his home-town club and remain in the Premiership, Mullins has decided to reunite himself with former Royals boss Alan Pardew at Charlton, who originally took him to West Ham from Crystal Palace for £500,000 in October 2003.

Charlton are keen to add some force to their midfield this summer and Mullins seems to be the first of a few new faces in the middle of the park.

The club are expected to confirm the capture of Mullins early next week.

good luck to him, but i reckon you need a few more key players to do well this season.

excellent signing at this level but with proven prem players leaving the club to be replaced by good championship players, it begs the question that if Charlton were to be promoted at the first attempt would it not signal a tough challenge to remain there the season after?
