Young Can Leave For Right Fee

Alan Pardew has confirmed former club captain Luke Young will be allowed to leave if the club receive the right offer.

Youngy had a bad season with injuries last year and when he did play he didn't seem the same player. Youngster Osei Sankofa was drafted in as cover and the promising star performed well when called on.

Pardew admitted earlier this week that the former Spurs defender could leave the Addicks before the start of the season begins.

'We've had a few phone calls about Luke,' said Alan. 'I've got a lot of time and respect for Luke and I appreciate where he is in his career he wants to play in the Premier League'.

'However, that's not always possible and I know that if we don't get the right offer then he'll stay and be as professional as he is. There is no bad feeling and he's not being difficult.

'If a decent club comes in and I thought the fee was right I'd let him go. I've obviously brought in a replacement already in Yassin Moutaouakil, who I feel is going to give real competition to Luke whether he stays or not.

'There are people manoeuvring at the moment. In some ways I think he's a difficult price, bearing in mind his age and his England experience, so everyone may be a bit nervous to make that first bid. I'm sure when it comes in, two or three clubs will be interested.'

Young handed in a transfer request last summer before Iain Dowie nailed him down to a new 4 year deal at the start of the season.

This time around though it seems Luke will get his wish as Charlton look set to cash in on the England star.

Aston Villa, Boro` and Pompey are the early favourites to swoop for the number 2.

It's the right time for Young to go. If we can get 3m for him then we are laughing. He's past his best now and i think younger blood is the right option.

Shame to see our better players going but Young will not be a big loss.
