Basey Joins Bees Nest

Young Charlton defender Grant Basey has signed a loan deal at Brentford.

The young left-footer signed a pro deal at The Valley this summer and he has joined Brentford on a one month loan deal.

Pardew has sent Basey out to gain some valuable first team playing experience.

He made his debut for the Bees in their 1-0 pre-season friendly defeat at Hampton & Richmond Borough on Tuesday. The defender will be eligible for the opening two games of the new season.

Speaking to the official website, Basey said: 'It's been good here and the gaffer has said I will be his first choice left-back so it will be good to get some games under my belt.

Basey has joined Terry Butcher's out fit and he hopes to take plenty in from the ex England legend.

'His playing career was second to none and he played in three World Cups so I will be looking to learn a lot from him, especially as he was a left footer as well.'

'I'm delighted with my progress,' Basey said. 'At the end of last year I was captaining the reserve team and training with the pros and this pre-season has been good.'

Basey is hoping to shine with the Bees in the short term, and become a first team player with the Addicks in season to come.

'Pards said he wanted to get me out on loan to get some experience,' he said.

'Hopefully by the end of it I can try and work my way into the first team at Charlton.'

Good Luck Grant
