Young Completes Boro Switch

Charlton defender Luke Young has left The Addicks after today putting pen to paper on a deal with Middlesborough which will see the 28-year-old make the move up north.

Young, who made more than 200 appearences in a Charlton shirt joins Gareth Southgate's side for a fee of £2,500,000.

Former Addicks boss Alan Curbishley snapped up Young back in 2001 for £4M when the then Spurs right back was struggling to get past Stephen Carr and into the Spurs team. That money turned out to be cash well spent as Young went on to solidify the Charlton number 2 spot as his own and become one of the most consistant full backs in England.

Form like this proved to be influential in catching the eye of former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson who gave Young his first England cap. Although just missing out on a place in England's World Cup squad, Young managed to keep in the thoughts of the England set up going on to win a total of seven caps while with The Addicks.

Luke's final game as a Charlton player came in the 2-2 draw at Anfield in the last game of last season which was also Charlton's last in the Premier League after their seven year stint in the top flight.

Farewell Luke and many thanks

Not bad business for you. Clearly he needs to be in the Premiership if he wants to remain in McClaren's thoughts!

Villa should have pushed the boat out like they did for Ashley Young and started to build from the back for the future.
