Dickson Departs On Loan

Chris Dickson has today decided to join Crewe Alexander on loan for one month.

Dickson, 22 was signed by manager Alan Pardew from Dulwich Hamlet for a fee of £35,000 earlier this year. Due to the fact he joined outside the transfer window, the youngster had to play in the reserves, where he impressed with 7 goals in just 6 games.

Dickson has also had a decent pre-season and he made his full debut for the Addicks in Tuesday nights victory over Swindon in the Carling Cup.

Dickson does have great qualities but he is down the pecking order of strikers that include Marcus Bent, Chris Iwelumo, Izale McLeod, Svetoslav Todorov and former Crewe striker Luke Varney.

Pardew feels a loan stint at Crewe will make Dickson a better player.

Talking to www.cafc.co.uk Pardew said: 'We think it will be a good education for him to go up and work with Dario Gradi.

'There were four clubs that came in to take him on loan and he picked Crewe.

'We've had good dealings with them over the summer because of Luke Varney and we have a good relationship with them.

'I'm hoping he's a big success. I want him to score goals and I think he will.'

The Charlton chief added: 'I don't want to loan anyone to the other clubs in the Championship in the first six months as I don't want them to impact on us.

'At all four clubs he would have learned different aspects but Crewe is as good as any.'

Speaking of his new recruit the long-serving Gradi, now technical director at Gresty Road, said: 'Chris Dickson has a good goal scoring record in non-League and for Charlton's reserve side.

'He is a goals corer and comes highly recommended by Alan Pardew and our own Luke Varney. We have spoken to Luke about him and he says he has an eye for goal.'


Four clubs had asked for Dickson's services on loan, including Gillingham and Millwall, but Dickson sought the advice of former Crewe man Varney and decided to join the Alex.
