Addicks Fight Back

Addicks Fight Back

Charlton produced a stunning second-half comeback as Chris Iwelumo's late goal gave the boys a 3-2 win at home to Sheffield Wednesday.

Iwelumo celebrated his full debut for the Addicks by grabbing the winner four minutes from time to complete an amazing fight back.

We were down and out after falling 2-0 down to the Owls at half-time at The Valley.

The first 45 minutes were as painful as they come and Charlton were all over the shop.

Sheffield Wednesday couldn't believe their luck as they walked to a two goal lead against a defence that was too unorganised for words.

Burton O'Brien scored the first goal with a classy lob after the Charlton backline failed to get in a challenge or clear the decks.

His effort was superb and Nicky Weaver had no chance in stopping it.

The visitors doubled their lead just nine minutes later when Tommy Spurr took advantage of some poor defending to head in Glenn Whelan's corner.

The defending was shocking and Spurr was left free to head past a load of Charlton players.

The half time whistle came and The Valley turned ugly as fans booed the team back up the tunnel.

Pardew had to give them an earful at the break and he did the trick as the host's came out with all guns blazing.

Skipper Andy Reid got the home side back into the game with a fine strike just after the restart. Some clever footwork from Reid saw him dispatch an inch perfect shot past the keeper and into the corner of the net.

Iwelumo then showed great foot work and strength as he grabbed his first of the afternoon to draw us level.

With time running out the big striker completed the fight back with another well taken goal. He latched onto Todorov's pass and kept the ball at his feet to beat the defenders and fire past the keeper.

Final score 3-2 and Charlton won their first league game of the season.

A good fight back from the boys but one thing is for sure, we need to sort out the defence. McCarthy just isn`t good enough and he cost us dear yet again. Go and sign the new central defender Pards. Time is running out.
