Pardew Pleased after Victory

Pardew Pleased after Victory

Alan Pardew was pleased with the way the Addicks went about things against Cardiff to secure a third successive Championship win.

For most of the first half the match was quite flat, something that he admits, but he was still pleased with the fact that late first half goals (more late goals) from Sam Sodje and Chris Iwelumo saw us in 2-0 up before Zheng Zhi added the third in the second half, this, and the way the system worked pleased him: "It was a strange game really and I felt that there wasn't a lot of electricity on the pitch in the first 35 minutes or so," Alan Pardew told the media after the 3-0 victory over the bluebirds.

"That was probably a good thing for us though because it allowed our quality to come through.

"We were very fortunate to go in at half-time with a two-goal lead but we've played very well in first halves this season and not got anything so maybe we deserved that fortune.

"With the two-goal cushion we did invite them to try and break us down and then look to hit them on the break, and with a few extra passes we could have done that.

"It's a system that I know well and you have to send positive messages to the team because it can look like you're not going to break down the opposition.

"I think we can play a lot better in this system at home if our energy levels are higher."

The victory over the bluebirds lifts the Addicks back to second place in the Championship behind Watford, who drew.

It was good to see Chris Iwelumo score again, and late goals in a half for a third match running proved the deference here really didn't they, as they good the ball rolling. But has the break come at the wrong time though?

After three wins in a week and also without conceeding the breaks come at a very bad time. Haven't you still got a few players struggling with injuries? So at least it will give them a bit more time.

The bluebirds have surprised me this season, I expected them to do much better. Have they sacked Dave Jones yet, as I heard they were going to?
