Reid Gets Holland's Support

Addicks team-mate, and former skipper Matt Holland, also a former Republic of Ireland team-mate of Andy Reid has given the current Addicks skipper a glowing recommendation.

Andy Reid has been suggested as a Republic of Ireland skipper in the future, and Matt Holland feels he would be more than capable of doing such a job having taken to the role of Addicks skipper like a duck to water, thriving on this: "As a club-mate of his, it was great to see Andy Reid being touted as a future Ireland captain in recent days. It's a role he has flourished in at the Valley," Matt Holland told the Irish Mail On Sunday.

"He is not afraid to speak his mind, either in the dressing room or to the press. And he never shies away from responsibility.

"You see it in games. Even if he loses the ball three of four times in a row in a game, he doesn't hide away from the play. That's a special quality for a midfielder.

"It helps that he is articulate and thoughtful when he speaks to the press. He doesn't give the standard clichéd answers in interviews - yeah I could definitely see him as a future Ireland captain. Of course, I don't know what Robbie (Keane, current Ireland captain) would think about that."

The extra responsibility of being the skipper has appeared to pay dividends for Andy Reid this season as he has been in top form, with this form carrying over to the international scene where he is rapidly becoming one of the most important members of the Republic of Ireland side, so leading his club as well as his country could one day be more than possible.

Reid has shown he is more than capable of leading a side at the Valley, he would also be more than capable of doing that for Ireland as well, and should such a thing ever happen I believe it could also improve his club form too (which is already great.)
