Weaver Modest on his Good Form
Prior to the meeting with Sheffield United Addicks goalkeeper Nicky Weaver had not conceded a goal in over a month (more than 411 hours of football), keeping four straight clean sheets in the progress.
The goal conceded in the 1-0 defeat to Queens Park Rangers at the Valley was the last goal he had conceded before the penalty scored by James Beattie for the Blades on Tuesday evening. Nicky Weaver doesn't put this run of clean sheets down to his own good work, he puts this down to the newly adopted formation Alan Pardew has been using: "We've played 4-5-1 five times this season and have won all five games and haven't conceded a goal, so the system has worked for us," Nicky Weaver told the Addicks website.
"People call it 4-5-1, but it could almost be 4-3-3 when we've got the ball. If you want it to be a negative system it can be, but on the flip side it can also be very positive.
"It's horses for courses and you have to play the formation that you feel will win games."
I think that the Addicks goalkeeper was being more than a little modest as he has been in fine form, making a string of fine saves in most matches he has played.
