Wycomb Wanderers 1 - Charlton Athletic 2

An ultimately hard fought, but thoroughly deserved victory for Charlton on their first ever compeitive visit to Adams Park.

After a nervy start, when they looked a little rusty, the Addicks took a twelfth minute lead when a left wing cross by Bailey was missed by Mooney but found its way to the lively Lloyd Sam on the right. The winger kept his composure before rolling a ball for Shelvey to fire beyond Scott Shearer in the home goal.

The visitors went on to dominate most of the opening period and Parkinson would have been disappointed not to have had a bigger advantage at the break.

The Chairboys upped their game after the break and levelled through Jon-Paul Pittman midway through the half. Pittman had done similar at Elland Road last week.

When the going gets tough, Charlton can rely on Nicky Bailey to get them going. A rasping Shelvey shot was blocked on the line, as was Bailey's follow up. The skipper was first to react to the loose ball, taking a touch before driving a left-footed shot into the bottom left hand corner of the net.

With Norwich winning 5-0 at Colchester, this was an important result for Charlton.
