'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Exeter City 1 - Charlton Athletic 0

St James Park

4 September 3.00 pm

Attendance: 5743

Exe-cuted

A wretched afternoon for Charlton ended in the worst possible way when they succumbed to an injury time penalty converted by Ryan Harley. Worse was to follow as Akpo Sodje, carrying a head injury following a late clash, collapsed after the final whistle & had to be tended by the Paramedics.

Charlton again failed to pose a threat in front of goal with only an ingenious lob by Kyel Reid seriously troubling Paul Jones in the home goal.

Exeter certainly had the best of the exchanges on the terraces too with the 635 Charlton fans being largely silent. Exeter cheerleader-in-chief was Steve Perryman from the Grandstand. Some of the travelling faithful gave the team & manager a torrid time as they left the field. The only real positive from a poor afternoon was the late introduction of Johnnie Jackson to midfield. Jackson looked as though he could add the creative spark.
