Charlton Athletic 1 - Barnet 0

The Valley

16 November 7.45pm

Attendance: 4803

Robbie The Rock

There always used to be a buzz about FA Cup matches, particularly replays which offered a good chance of progress. Victory last night ensured Charlton of a home tie against non-league opposition, with either Luton or Corby visiting The Valley. The Addicks have a golden opportunity of reaching the third round and a potential money spinning game with one of the giants of English football.

That possibility did not entice many to last night's game. Less than 5000 were in attendance, even the burger man opposite the club shop couldn't be bothered to open up!

The game was a drab affair befitting the general apathy that surrounded it. Grant Basey was given warm and generous applause on his return whereas late sub, Izale McLeod, was roundly booed.

The only goal of the game came in the 17th minute when Kyel Reid robbed Joe Devera on the right, drove in along the byeline before coming out to improve the angle and fire home past Jake Cole.

Fortune appeared to be in some discomfort, rubbing his stomach and receiving a pill of some sort from the bench. He was to be replaced by Gary Doherty in the second half.

Charlton's hero was Rob Elliot ho produced a string of saves to book the host's place in the second round.
