Mig Raid

Charlton arrested their recent alarming run of defeats with a draw against out-of-form Tranmere.

Tranmere came to spoil, their game plan was to frustrate their opponent, get a point or maybe even snatch a goal on the break.

The game was not helped by an over fussy, rookie referee who denied the Addicks a clear penalty for shirt pulling on Benson late on.

The injured Doherty, Reid and Eccleston were replaced by Llera, McCormack and Benson. Man of the Match, Llera was a revelation. There was the de rigeur faux-pas of course but he coped well with the giant Showumni, talked to and directed the back line, sprayed his trade mark diagonal balls around and his prowess at set plays saw the Addicks equalise.

The lowest Saturday crowd of the season witnessed a dire first half, Tranmere wasting time at every opportunity with Charlton unable to unlock the visitors' rearguard.

Tranmere took the lead after 26 minutes following a badly misdirected pass fom Simon Francis. Enoch Showumni intercepted, advanced on goal to slip the ball past Elliot. Elliot failed to appear after the break, having aggravated his troublesome hip problem just before the break.

Charlton reappeared a far more fired up unit and restored parity nine minutes into the second half. The impressive Racon was felled just outside the area, on the right hand side. Llera stepped up, curled the ball round the wall which nestled in the bottom corner. The scorer will be debated as Llera's drive was touched in by Wright-Phillips.

The Addicks penned their visitors in for long periods but could not find a way through, though they did have a couple of penalty shouts. A driven cross struck a hand but there was a clear pull on Benson's shirt towards the end.

So two more dropped points saw Charlton fall seven points behind sixth placed Milton Keynes Dons, who they visit on Tuesday. They now need to go on a winning run to reignite their play-off hopes.
