The Run Goes On

A game in which Charlton enjoyed the greater share of possession, had more shots, more shots on target ultimately yielded them nothing more than another defeat.

They were undone, once again, by their defensive frailties. A Jason Kennedy thunderbolt, which left Elliot static, ten minutes before the break, and a Craig Dawson header from a corner, fourteen minutes from time did the damage.

It is now thirteen matches ago, at Yeovil, when the Addicks last kept a clean sheet. No side can be successful when goals are shipped at this rate.

I can only assume Elliot was unsighted for the first while the second was another to add to the catalogue of goals conceded from set plays.

Therry Racon was particularly unfortunate with a shot that hit Fon Williams' trailing leg but getting something from a game when two goals have been given away will always be a tall order.

There were some bright spots though. Michael Stewart's cameo was impressive. Pointing, talking, cajoling, finding space and the ability to pass make him a more than useful acquisition. Definitely a natural leader who could be very influential.

Joe Anyinsah picked up another hamstring injury and had to be replaced by Paul Benson. Benson was a real livewire, thriving on the early delivery that he craves. A spectacular volley that went just over, a good header, as well as another couple of efforts made up a decent contribution. Anyinsah's fitness frailties are a real worry though.

So the winless streak moves on to eleven. Nathan Eccleston is getting increasingly frustrated with his lack of match action while Kyle Reid joined McCormack in being omitted from the match day squad and is another who is far from happy with his current lot.

The games are coming thick and fast now and Powell will be hoping to get the team back to winning ways against Leyton Orient on Saturday.

Star Player

Dean Parrett, had an impressive game.

Whatever might be said about failings of indivduals in the squad this is a team lacking in self belief. They need a good win with the crowd behind them. My worry is that the "boo boys" are too ready to get on their backs. We need true supporter behind the team on Saturday and to maintain that support throughout the game, regardless of individual perfmances. Oh, and please CP, give Eccleston a start!
