Abysmal Addicks

Charlton suffered a fourth home defeat of the season at the hands of a decent looking Burnley side.

Before the game The Addicks were looking to get back to winning ways by defeating Burnley after a mid-week set back against Sheff Utd.

Alan Pardew changed from his previous 4-5-1 system to a 4-4-2 which obviously didn't pay off for the Charlton boss. The suprise inclusions of Matt Holland, Darren Ambrose and Luke Varney into the starting line-up left many Addick's fans bemused before kick off.

No one could have been more surprised to Burnley's start than manager Owen Coyle, he found his side two goals to the good within 15 minutes of play. Almost identical to each other, both free kicks from the left finished with glancing headers. Firstly from Andy Gray and then by Chris McCann.

Charlton tried to push forward in vein as the home fans started to get on their backs and a goal finally came nine minutes before half-time. Andy Reid managed to lash home a volley after a lose ball.

Burnley were on the back foot for most of the second half as Charlton dominated possesion but could not find a way thorugh a solid Claret back four.

Chris Iwelumo eventually thought that he had done enough to bring the score level but his effort was ruled out for offside.

The Addicks were then given a major blow for their efforts. Wade Elliot raced down the right flank crossing the ball for it only to hit Danny Mills on the arm, giving away a penalty in the process. Andy Gray slotted home the resulting penalty with ease securing all three points for Burnley.

Star Player

Andy Gray - Just as we at Vital predicted, the least bit of satisfaction I can gain from another poor result.

You will be fine, I think you and Watford just got us at the wrong time! We are on a high, I dont know what Coyle had given the lads but I want some!

Just goes to show how open this league really is!

We should still be ok for the play-offs minimum but we can't afford to keep going on runs of defeats. The league is open, but to get where we want we need to start relying on us, not others a win is a must tomorrow.

Well we won tonight - hopefully this time it's the start of something very good :)

I'm getting the feeling of deja vu a lot this season.
