Ambrose Stops Home Rot

Charlton managed to secure a decent three points against Ipswich Town with all the home side's goals coming in the first half.

Darren Ambrose came back to haunt his old club by putting The Addicks ahead on 6 minutes. Another former Tractor Boy in the shape of Matt Holland crossed of Ambrose to nod home.

Ipswich could not seem to recover from this early set back and this showed as Charlton were able to double their advantage on 31 minutes. A simple corner was left by everyone in the box and eventually found its way to Iwelumo who managed to fire home.

A matter of minutes later Charlton were on the attack again and Darren Ambrose was able to secure the points for the home side by driving home a shot after some good work from Irishman, Andy Reid.

Ipswich's poor first half showing forced Town boss, Jim Magilton into making 2 changes at the break. Former Charlton youngster Danny Haynes and Luis Castro Rodriguez came on in place of Dan Harding and Gary Roberts.

This tactical change seemed to inspire Ipswich as 3 minutes into the second half they won a penalty after Chris Powell brought down Alan Lee in the box. Nicky Weaver was able to save Lee's resulting spot kick with relative ease.

Alan Pardew's side found that they were on the back-foot for a periods in the second half and the constant pressure allowed Pablo Counago to score a cheeky constalation for the visitors back heeling the ball with his back to goal after a great first touch.

Despite this Charlton held firm and Matt Holland was able to hit a post before the full time whistle rang out around The Valley. The drama was not yet over though, Jonathon Fortune was sent off on his way back to the tunnel after appearing to have punched Ipswich striker Alan Lee.

Star Player

Darren Ambrose - Can he at last be the player he was expected to be? Bobby Robson once described him as having 'a bomb in his foot.' He certainly did this afternoon.

Your Comments

The tractor boys were blown away in the first half weren't they, although they were dangerous in the second half, but the damage was done. It was a big three points, and three points that was needed at home.

Yeah the first half is what counted and we need to build on that. :)
